Exciting growth and a world of innovation: Inside life on our Tech team (Part 3)

Monday, 30th May 2022

It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

Don’t worry about sounding professional. Sound like you. There are over 1.5 billion websites out there, but your story is what’s going to separate this one from the rest. If you read the words back and don’t hear your own voice in your head, that’s a good sign you still have more work to do.

Be clear, be confident and don’t overthink it. The beauty of your story is that it’s going to continue to evolve and your site can evolve with it. Your goal should be to make it feel right for right now. Later will take care of itself. It always does.

Alex, Senior DevOps Engineer

Our very fast growth has translated to multiple interesting and exciting challenges for our tech team. We’ve had to scale our infrastructure to be able to support 100 times as many sensors, and automate our release process to achieve true continuous delivery and enable our engineers to ship features out as fast as possible while maintaining the reliability of our systems. It’s been such an amazing opportunity to help support our growth and see the value it brings to our clients and our engineers.

I love the transparency and openness across the business. You get to understand why decisions are made and get involved in projects you may not have elsewhere. It’s a culture of trust and ‘grown up rules’ that appreciates we all work in different ways, and allows us the flexibility to balance our work and personal lives. I also love the sense of ownership everyone has. Everyone is so passionate and mission-driven and it's amazing to see everyone collaborating and delivering amazing results.

Nick, IT Engineer

I’m working on Okta implementation at the moment. Even though we are at the early stages, centralising SSO requires strong foundations from both HR and IT in order to be successful. Creating an integration that is reliable between HRIS and our IdP(Okta) has been an exciting collaboration between both departments.

Our main goal has been streamlining the onboarding of 500 people in 12 months. We are generally just trying to make everyone’s working day better, and allow them to be secure in the knowledge the systems they use are safe and in good hands.

This is one of very few companies I've worked with that makes a real effort with maintaining their culture, and I love that it maintains as flat a hierarchy as possible. And if you need something here, all you have to do is ask.

Joe, Senior Software Engineer in Test

The thing I love most about the people and culture at Infogrid is that everyone really wants to make a difference. Everyone is extremely passionate about technology and making the world a better place. When you combine those things, you get a great culture to work in.

The most exciting project I've worked on has to be our dashboard widgets project – taking the huge amount of data from our sensors and visualising that for the end-user was a real challenge. We had a huge amount of things to consider from a QA point of view, from usability testing on different devices, to performance testing how many events we could handle and display to users. However, the end result was very rewarding and it's always interesting to see things like Air Quality displayed in an easy to understand widget!
